Therapy for Children, Teenagers, Adults and Families

Throughout most of my counseling career I have worked closely with children, adults, and families on LGBTQ+ issues. In addition to LGBTQ+ counseling support, my work includes advocating for this population, and services may include (but are not limited to) the following:

Evaluations & letters of recommendation to Medical Doctors for transgender people seeking to transition

Parent support & education for parents of children who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer

Linking families and children to support groups in the community such as The Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) , and Parents, Family & Friends of Lesbians & Gays (PFLAG)

It is important for parents to be supportive and open to learning about what their LGBTQ+ children are experiencing. By simply listening to them without reacting in fear or anger, they can do wonders for their mental health.

An open and honest father (Conservative, Catholic, and X-military officer) of a transgender son shares his story in this very important and moving Ted Talk. He makes the strong point that it is essential for parents to listen and learn, and to work to understand their transgender son or daughter. It could not only save their lives but also bring them relief from unnecessary suffering and lead to happiness. It is not the transgender person's choice to be transgender.
